Areola reduction is performed under local or general anesthesia, if the operation is combined with breast reduction, enlargement, or modeling, it takes approximately 1.5 – 2 hours. The areolas are surgically adjusted, excess skin is removed around the edges and wounds are sutured with absorbable stitches, eliminating the need for stitch removal. A less visible scar remains around the circumference of the areolas.

After areola reduction surgery, the wound is covered with sterile bandage and gauze for about 14 days. Disinfection then takes place every other day to prevent infection (only superficially). After 2 weeks, the gauze with bandage is removed, breasts can be washed and pressure massages are recommended to reduce scar formation and lighten them. It is recommended to apply moisturizing creams to the area. After a few days, the patient can return to normal work process. Only after about 3 weeks is physical exertion recommended.
Areola reduction, although for some a seemingly small aesthetic problem, helps women improve their appearance and increase self-confidence.
