Elective abortion – Czech legislation

Under Czech law (Act No. 66/1986 Coll.), elective abortions are legal up to the 12th week of pregnancy. An ultrasound is required to determine the gestational age. If the pregnancy is no longer than 11 weeks and 6 days, the abortion can be performed without giving a reason.

Surgical abortion – how it works

The abortion is performed under general anaesthesia. After disinfecting the genital area, the doctor dilates the cervix and removes the gestational sac using vacuum aspiration.
